I'd like some feedback on the JD4400 HST 4x4. Anyone that has purchased this model with a front end-loader, 50 inch Deere tiller, and 60 inch belly mower, please respond. I saw this model with this mower and the clearance between the rear tires was probably 1 inch in transport mode. With the mower in mowing position the clearance was adequate. User input would be appreciated. Thank You in advance.

I bought my 4400 back in Dec-1998 with a 430 loader and 60" midmount mower. If you're concerned about mower clearance, I've never had any problems. However, you won't be able to mount the rear tires in their widest possible position. Because my 4400 had the original front axle, I did experience the scuffing problem documented elsewhere on this board. My dealer recently replaced the original front axle with the new design (no charge - under warranty) - scuffing is no longer a problem. Other problems - my dash panel fogged up (also mentioned on this board by other 4000 owners)but the dealer fixed that too. The mower and loader work very well and the tractor has plenty of power. I've been very happy with the tractor - no regrets whatsoever. Good luck. ....

David - Semper Fi (we've talked before here!) I have a 4400 that I'm VERY happy with -- I had last year's model with the fogging glass & scuffing axle, and the dealer (with JD)replaced the tractor with a new one a month ago. It's great -- no scuffing, smooth operation, etc., and plenty of machine for my use. I have a 430 loader, bush hog, tiller, post hole digger, potato plow, rear blade, (and probably some other attachments I can't think of!) of all different Mfrs. I didn't get the belly (finishing) mower because I'd have to start cutting the grass! (Now my wife does it with the smaller mower!) Anyway, I can't say enough about the 4400 and/or JD! Again, Semper Fi (former mud Marine, too.!) ....

I don't have the mower on my 4400 yet, but plan to buy it next spring after I get the lawn in. My 4400 is a month old with 430 loader, 48 backhoe, and all the little goodies. I haven't had much use yet due to my travel schedule and poor weather, but so far it has been great. I'll add an update post to the 4400 owner's journal thread that I started. Which tires are you looking at with that mower deck, turf or R4? My guess is that you would be just fine with either, but the turfs may give you more clearance. ....

I bought a 4400 in jan and have no complaints but the scuffing problems.I got the 72" mower and it is VERY impressive, the only thing I don't like is that athe front has to be on the narrow pos. the rear is fine. I had a 955 with a 72" land pride rear mount finish mower , not even close. Why a 60", the 72" lets you keep the rear in the wide pos. so you don't have to switch all the time. It gos on and off real easy. Great tractor! ....

I also purchased a 4400 72in belly mower and a 450 tiller. I had all the the problems as mentioned in the other treads, all were fixed no charged. I am very pleased with my tractor at this point. I have a small hill in the rear yard and wanted to move the front tires out wider, seem that they will scrub the deck in a turn, so I took one of the front brackets off nad made a templet, moving the
bottom half back one inch, now I have no problem in turns. My tractor has turf tires and I don't know if other types will work, there maybe a prolbem clearing the rear tire when the deck up.

I am glad to hear that the brackt mod on the front worked and I also want'd to try that . Then did you use the rear holes in the rear bracket? wouldnt it be nice if the tires were a little wider and mounted with a little less offset? ....
